A showcase of art from the saddleworth group of artists
Sheila Dewsbury is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a council member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. She is a founder member of the New Manchester Group of seven established artists who exhibit in and around the city centre.
Her paintings explore the underlying structure of the subject and how the play of light exposes form. These themes are developed in landscapes of the Pennine hills, north Wales and the west of Ireland. She has exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Britain’s Painters at the Westminster Gallery, the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith and the Quaker Gallery.
Other venues include the Royal Cambrian Academy, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Manchester Art Fair and Bath Contemporary Arts Festival.
Solo exhibitions include Saddleworth Arts Festivals (every four years since 1983), Saddleworth Museum Gallery, Uppermill, Coliseum Theatre, Oldham, Portico Gallery, Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
